Colleen Rutledge is a hygiene coach, writer and well-respected dental hygienist who speaks nationally on the non-surgical approach to managing periodontal disease. Her professional career began over 30 years ago in Philadelphia after completing a dental assisting externship at Temple University and graduating class president from National School of Health Technology. She pursued a degree in Dental Hygiene at Coastal Carolina Community College in North Carolina and was the recipient of the Hu-Friedy Golden Scaler Award.

Employed by both insurance-driven and fee-for-service practices, Colleen diligently incorporated ultrasonics, locally-applied antimicrobials and host modulation in conjunction with several modalities of periodontal therapy. Her excellent communication skills and experience in delivering exceptional hygiene services subsequently increased daily hygiene production by 40%.

Her passion for providing dental offices and patients with evidence-based care resulted in the establishment of “Perio-Therapeutics & Beyond”, a consulting firm offering hands-on, state-of-the-art, in-office assessments which have raised the standards for hygiene departments and provided inspiration and motivation to dental professionals across the country. “Perio-Therapeutics & Beyond” has been consecutively featured in Dentistry Today since 2005 as a “Leader in Dental Consulting”.

Ms. Rutledge is published in several dental publications including Dental Economics, Woman Dentist e-Journal, Dental Practice Report, Modern Hygienist, and Access. She served on the Board of Trustees for PDHA, is a member of several organizations including: ADHA, Speaking Consulting Network, and several speakers’ bureaus.
